The Mechanical Symphony

Auteur documentary – 64′ – 2009

SYNOPSIS

“When we know the rules, we get bored” said François Delarozière. So, with his accomplice, the composer Mino Malan, they take a path that diverges from what currently exists. The Mechanical Symphony’s theater takes place in the wings of a concert hall ; a real factory where everything is visible. In every corner of the workspace, a rag-tag but tight-knit group of musicians and mechanics participate in the composition of a constantly evolving musical score, Their instruments include anything from a blowtorch, to a violin bow, a lifting or a wind machine. In the evening, for the big concert, the workshop becomes the stage.
